Smh, Julius still with that crappy attitude even though he couldn't have done a thing on his own without the Empire's support. Hopefully we get a followup to see just how "well" he does governing his country after losing his people's respect.

They could just make it a proxy state ffs cmon, officially ruled by julius but the real control can be in the hands of souma.

Agissea • 2 years ago

isn't it more worth to have the proxy state ruled by the sister instead (since the brother will always try to redo the war), who would focus more on economy than war ? (do they need a big army, if the alliance prevent 3 countries from attacking and annexing it while Souma won't attack ?)

Sprayquaza • 2 years ago

he isnt aware of the sister or her whereabouts yet.but yes this would be a good move.and would remove julius too perfection.

Kahale • 2 years ago

hmm i though souma had contact with the little sister as a adventurer or something.

// • 2 years ago

He went shopping in her store under disguise once (I think it was for Tomoe). They were aware of who he is, but none of the Elfrieden side seemed to have caught on.

Vii X • 2 years ago

Sadly stupid people breed faster then smart people. Van is going to burn before they rebel.

// • 2 years ago

Not sure how that relates to my comment :D

Vii X • 2 years ago

Mis-click I suppose. Dunno who you are.

Honestly I don't mind it either. I'm just saying it there's no obligation for a cliff hanger.

When was this?

Last episode last season.

Berstich • 2 years ago

Damn, I actually just watched the series before the start of this one and didnt remember that.

Kirito • 2 years ago

Oh yeah I forgot that guy was souma wearing that costume to socialize

Dragnorock • 2 years ago

Not directly, she used the shopkeeper to gauge Souma's character. So it was only one side really showing interest in the other party. They have not interacted with each other personally yet.

MadMoXie • 2 years ago

You are gonna surprised in the next episode or two.

Solve for {x} • 2 years ago

Tbf, Souma just put Amidonia in the same economic position as His Kingdom; before he was summoned.
The difference is nobody would like Julius, for losing the war and then agreeing to essentially tank their nation’s economy; just so he can keep his throne.
(Too much pride. Dude should have folded)

QuadL • 2 years ago

Souma was planning to have Amidonia reduce their military spending by the 20% which would in turn reduce their threat exponentially. But he failed in realist 101 thinking since it would be less likely that Julius would reduce his power base that drastically. He is after all in power because of the military control he has over the people. Most likely he would reduce spending some in other parts while increasing taxes to cover the rest. When evil rules the people suffer. This is evident in China, Russia, North Korea, and yes, even in Biden's 'Merica.
Souma would have been better off demanding more of removing those who backed and supported the war efforts against his kingdom and some form of oversight while Amidonia "transitioned" back to Julius' rule.

Solve for {x} • 2 years ago

Was comparing Elfrieden’s past economic woes to what will soon befall Amidonia.

Corrupt Nobles, financial strain as a consequence war efforts, then finally, revolution; if there are still enough people to revolt, condemning a nation to a slow and painful death.

Fortunately, King Albert was bless with Souma, when he tried to summon a hero to pay off their debts to the Empire.

Unknown • 1 year ago

Didn't expect nato propaganda so soon.

Nomys • 2 years ago

But what if he planed it knowing that people of Amidonia will revolt against Julius because of it and will want to join Elfrieden.

Solve for {x} • 2 years ago

To be fair Van is just one of Amidonia’s cities; just so happens to be their capital.

Julius, legit risked starving his entire nation just to get one city back.

JS Lee • 2 years ago

well souma did mention that one of the reason for everything he did in van is to light the spark of rebellion for when julius returns to the throne since the people now knows what freedom is like they can go back anymore and my guess is that the little sister will cause a civil war one way or another

eastpaw • 2 years ago

That is quite the incorrect understanding of world affairs.

Adam Jenkins • 2 years ago

unnecessary. hell is about to reign in Amidonia. the books he took would contain financial records, though likely already removed from the castle by the bureaucrats, the receivers would need to be individually retuned, and the people may not care to. worse an oppressed nation given a taste of freedom is more rebellious than one that knows only oppression, and without coin, bureaucrats, and an army (that soma really hammered) Julius will be hard pressed to enforce his rule over the country. And the mankind declaration doesn't cover willing transition of borders.

and if julius destroys those bridges, the flow of goods will be disrupted risking famine (alot of people mistakenly assume famine is caused by lack of food, but it is more often a result of logistical breakdown. not "no food to be had", more "no food to be had HERE")

// • 2 years ago

If she had any interest in doing so.

Agissea • 2 years ago

yes, I was more thinking like "isn't her only option to get to another country enemy of Van (of Julius and his father) accepting her and trying to get her to lead her country" (Souma probably) or die ? (since Julius doesn't want competition since he isn't fit to rule, given his reaction&thinking he was in a position to negotiate, he would kill all his siblings to make sure of it) (so to me, her wanting to live was in her interests probably)

OfficialDrixMalone • 2 years ago

There's no need for all those parenthesis lol, and they're not used correctly but I agree he's definitely unfit to rule smh.

Agissea • 2 years ago

yes, sometime, I will get someone to teach me to be more concise in my thinking :)

Agissea • 2 years ago

yes I know, one day, I will have someone teach me how to be more precise about the way I write text^^ (like no more () "" ' ' )
(I'm French and unfortunatly, I do it in French too :( )

Chryslr • 2 years ago

With how whinny Julius is, I doubt that will work. LOL!

Sprayquaza • 2 years ago

he is also dumb so he probably will never realize XD

JD • 2 years ago

A republic. If they would just put some noble loyal to them in power the Empire could not accept it, but if they had remade the Principality into a republic governed by its own people and without changing the borers it could also have worked.

ForNowGGDC • 2 years ago

Why on earth would Julius agree to that? There wouldn't really be any point in retrieving Van then.

JD • 2 years ago

May be hard to understand due to all the places and names being fantasy, but could you imagine UK giving up London, France Paris, or Austria Vienna? The capitol is more than just a city among many.

but yeah, I expect Julius to mismanage the situation and lose control, maybe even his life. In 15th-18th century it was common for governments to put any extra burden (such as taxes or war reparations) directly on the common people, so I do not expect him to lower military spendings to pay the reparations that way, and the repeated use of the word 'revolution' already hints at uprisings, rebellions in the series

ForNowGGDC • 2 years ago

That doesn't explain why Julius would agree to it. He isn't going to go, "Oh yeah, I am not going to be able to run this country well enough, so I will give all the power to them". The capital being important is exactly why Julius would say no.

In fact, the acting king may disagree, seeing as he will have to put in a lot of work to run another country, whilst keeping it a secret as well as not being able to benefit very well from it, especially as he can't just take more stuff from Van, like taxes, most of which that would need to go back towards Van anyway.

JD • 2 years ago

Say no to what? The proposal he now agreed to? Or to getting the city back? Not regaining it would certainly ruin his chances to reign as both his miltary officers and population would turn on him for losing it.

Julius really had no option to decline the offer. If he would then the
Empire would kick his Principality out of the treaty and not offer any military backing to his already weak political and military position. This would allow it to be fully conquered by neighbors.

Elfrieden could outright annex it too without international outcry, but the other 3 neighbors would also see the chance to grab parts of it. I fully expect Julius to not realize how bad his situation already is and create a worse mess of things.

At least he seems to know his own sister is a threat to him, because if the people still feel like staying monarchists but without supporting Julius, then their mood will shift to wanting Roroa to replace him.

F for Van T_T

Sprayquaza • 2 years ago

F to souma giving up such a strategic location to keep up pretense , he could just rule it by proxy , hed be the true ruler but not in name.

Mr.Gold • 2 years ago

As much as I agree, being the de facto ruler of Van will incur more trouble than having it sold back to Amidonia, setting aside the resistance of Julius during that period, he simply can't afford to spend time and money on a city in order to resuscitate it when his own Kingdom, Elfrieden, is experiencing major difficulty and is only recently pulling through positively.

john doe • 2 years ago

He couldn't keep it.
The empire was forced to kick him out for the sake of the agreement.
Amidonia is no threat any more that is the best he could achieve

Sprayquaza • 2 years ago

yes but he can still rule it with ease maybe not officially
